Pyxis

Pyxis is a private photo vault for iPhone and iPad built around one idea: nobody should be able to tell what is in it, or even whether it exists. Photos, videos, files and notes are encrypted on the device with AES-256 before they are stored, using keys derived from a pattern the user draws. Each pattern opens its own vault and the app never lists them, so there is nothing to give away how many exist. A duress pattern opens a decoy vault and erases the rest, encrypted iCloud backup keeps a copy only the user can read, and vaults can be shared with a 9-word phrase, an expiry date and an open limit. It ships in 44 languages.

What we built

Project highlights

01

Hidden, pattern-locked vaults

Each pattern opens its own vault and the app never shows a list, so nobody can tell how many vaults exist — or whether there are any.

02

Encrypted on the device

Every file, thumbnail and file name is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it is stored. Keys come from the pattern and never leave the phone.

03

Duress pattern

A second pattern opens a decoy vault and quietly erases every other vault — built for the moment someone forces you to unlock.

04

Zero-knowledge sync and sharing

iCloud backup, iPhone–iPad sync and shared vaults all move only encrypted data, so neither Apple nor Kavvara can read it.
